ROMANS 12:3 ESV
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
I have talked with so many people lately dealing with a value issue. Many that undervalue themselves and several that overvalue themselves. How do you find a happy medium? Where is value in our lives?
1. Don’t think more highly of yourself than you should.
We are not “all that and a bag of chips”. We are all from dust and to dust we will return.. HOWEVER, there are some great things we can do in between. There is absolutely nothing wrong with thinking good of one self. The problem is, some can’t even do that. Past guilt, poor self-esteem, negative words that have been spoken, failure at tasks that seem should be easy to do.. you name it and value can easily be devalued in our lives. And then the flip side.. “I HAVE GOT THIS” “I HAVE THIS FIGURED OUT” “I GOT IT FROM HERE”. Pride and self seeking can really distort that value or values a person may have and what God has placed in you.
Proverbs 28:6 ESV
Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.
2. Understand the great effort that went into you.
Psalm 139:13-14 ESV
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
You ARE of great value. Fearfully and wonderfully made. That can sound pretty intense when you are struggling with identity.. but, to really understand your value from creation can help put things in perspective. That value will never decrease, it actually will increase. The Mona Lisa is worth more now than it ever was and that’s just some color splashed on canvas!
Artists create incredible sculptures, fantastic paintings, incredible stories, beautiful music and for the person watching or listening it is incredible!!!! Guess what.. YOU’RE INCREDIBLE!!! There is so much work that went into just giving you breath that each day we arise…We must wake up grateful. We all have bad days, experiences, issues, but they don’t define you, they shouldn’t define you, they must NOT define you.
In sales there is a statement of value added sales. Always something that is an add on at the end that makes the purchase even better. Each day we have is a value added bonus… enjoy it!
3. You don’t get to determine your value.. it’s already determined!
Remember the fearfully and wonderfully made scripture? In the original Hebrew text of the Bible, the word fearfully means: with great reverence, heart-felt interest and with respect. The word wonderfully means: unique, set apart, marvelous.
YOU ALREADY HAVE VALUE!!!!!! Whether or not you want to admit it, feel it or want to look the part.. you are a person made with great reverence!! There was heart felt interest in just YOU!! And the utmost respect for who you are!!!!! Unique, one of a kind, set apart and MARVELOUS!!
I realize that these 3 things may not answer it all and may not get you out of a rut you may be in.. I’m more than willing to toss that around… I sure don’t know everything and by no means have I reached perfection, but I do know how to listen to the voice of the Father and I’d be honored to share more with you if you need it.. just message me… and in the meantime.. I had a meeting with some great leaders today and this is one thing that stuck out to me#GodsGotThis …Sometimes it just sucks.. It’s just not as bad as you think!!
awesome insights Crump. Love it.
This is a fantastic blog. The first point in this blog was a struggle of mine for the that last 5 years. When everything you’ve believed you were gets lost by life events (loss of job, marriage, support, friends, etc.) it will make you question your life and your purpose..in other words, my identity. I went from thinking that I knew it all to feeling useless and without worth. This brought about a change in me. I cried out to the Lord, and I surrendered myself. I put my trust in the Lord and I’ve been having these wonderful experiences with God. I know that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I know that all things work together for my good. I know that God will get the glory out of every single thing that I have gone through and will go through in the future. I know that His will be done. I know that I am chosen. I know that just because things don’t work out like I desire, God knows best. God’s will is what I want. I don’t regret going through anything that I’ve gone through because I know there is a purpose. Knowing my worth, value and my identity, allows me to accept whatever comes my way. I look forward to seeing what is next on God’s agenda in my life.
I love you Matt. Thank you for letting the Lord use you in speaking to so many of us. It is important to our spiritual sanity to know that God’s Got Our Lives! God’s Got This!
