Romans 12:12 NLT

12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

Sounds easy, right??

Not really!!! It is so hard to persevere when things are hard, when you don’t feel like it, when difficulty blurs breakthrough.

SO WHAT IN THE WORLD DO YOU DO???

SOMETHING!!!!

Rejoicing isn’t always your first thought when you are fighting the funk!!  But the scripture above says to rejoice in our confident hope. So, the first step:

1. CELEBRATE WHAT YOU KNOW!

He is our confident hope. He does have it all figured out even if we don’t. A way out of the funk is to celebrate Him!!  He has a way out, he knows the path, he has the plan. When difficulty blurs the breakthrough, praise is a way out!  Part of Isaiah 61:3 says:

and a spirit of praise instead of a spirit of no hope

Celebrate what you know. Get dressed for the situation.. put on a garment of praise…. that doesn’t mean that a short little song is enough.. it is a determined moment to press in. This leads you to:

2. PRACTICE PATIENCE

Oh yeah.. the easy part… patience!!!  “But I’m tired of being patient”……. “Are you kidding me??!” I know, it sounds crazy, but there is great benefit in learning the discipline of patience. I have learned in my battle with cancer that even though I have quoted a ton of scriptures, prayed hours of prayers, have thousands of people praying for me and I STILL HAVE TUMORS!!!! I’ve learned in my celebration of my confident hope that God really does have this.  My worry or anxiety surely doesn’t make it any better…… so, in my resting, I’m learning patience. When you’re in trouble it’s not easy, but it is possible. The atmosphere of worship/praise in step one does create a place where being patient is a much easier task… but it takes practice. And what really brings it all home is:

3. KEEP ON

Never, never, never QUIT!!!  It is vitally important to keep moving forward. Again, it’s not easy. I have many times I have screamed into the air, fussed and groaned and many times just completely out of words to describe it. But, we have to move forward. We are told to keep praying in this scripture.  So… if you are living in a place where you are celebrating what you know, practicing patience then you should be in a place where you are praying. Pray regardless!! I can’t tell you how blown away I get when I get an email or message from someone I honestly may have forgotten about that said to me something I said 10, 15, 25 years ago changed their life and they are now living for Christ!  You may not see immediate response or change, but I promise.. if you persevere, things WILL CHANGE!!!

I want to encourage you today to never let go. Be determined to be a person of perseverance, no matter what!!!

And don’t ever forget……
