Psalm 27:13-14 (NLT) 13 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. 14 Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

I read this scripture with my kids the other day and it turned into an interesting moment for us. We always read through a scripture in the morning and then talk about it. As I was reading in verse 13 I was actually getting the sense of eternity.  Many people talk about eternity. What is eternity. Are you going to eternity? Hey, even Prince wrote a song talking talking about it.. you remember.. right???

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called “life”

Electric word, life
It means forever and that’s a mighty long time
But I’m here to tell you
There’s something else
The afterworld

A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night

Yeah, so now I have that song stuck in your head.. mine too! Okay.. point is, it is mostly something talked about as something we can get to.

I’m suggesting, it’s possible to be partly there already!

Okay, before you write me off as completely crazy. Check out the verse. It says “…I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.”

That’s a now thing and a here thing, but the wild thing is he’s there and yet he’s here. So by reaching out to Jesus and him reaching back to us is actually touching eternity today.

My son said something pretty amazing for an almost 11 year old:

When we know Jesus, we have a hand extended and we’re touching, but we have to choose whether we take hold or let go of the hand of God and eternity -Gehrum

That’s deep and that’s why I’m writing this blog today. We have a choice. We have a hope. We have an opportunity. God’s grip is forever and faithful, that’s not the grip we should ever be concerned with.

HOW’S YOUR GRIP?

I love verse 14 as well and if you catch something about it, you’ll see there is something mentioned twice in one little scripture. TWICE. So, if it’s in a short little spot like that two times, it must be important:

Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Friends, when the waiting seems like forever. HOLD ON. When your grip seems to be slipping. HOLD ON. When you’re just not sure and you begin to doubt. HOLD ON. When someone tells you something like “You could very well die from this Mr. Crump.” HOLD ON. When you feel weak, frail and tired. HOLD ON.

I think you get the point. My friend, today you can be touching eternity. Not just to “get through this thing called life.” But to actively live a life of hope and peace and abundance EVEN THOUGH!

HOW’S YOUR GRIP?

HOLD ON!
